MayDay Event, Portmore -Report, Results & Pics.

An excellent day’s sport at the new venue of Portmore Equistrian Centre; our sincere thanks to Joe McAleese and members of the Whip & Collar Club for letting us share their driving show which proved to be a great showpiece for carriage driving, both showing and driving trials.  Hopefully we may have demonstrated what great fun trials can be and possibly convert some of our showing friends!

A total of 17 competitors enjoyed the day which combined the normal dressage followed by a 5 Km drive around the edge of Portmore Lough and its big sister Lough Neagh, good job the May flies are only just hatching!!! A tight cones/obstacle course proved testing for some of the new competitors, it was great to see two new members out and enjoying themselves.  Apologies to Vincent Duggan who had been incorrectly placed in the Open Horse section, he finished the 2015 Points League with one point to spare so will remain in the Novice class for a further year.  The attached results have been amended as a result (sorry Emma this means that you finished second not first!)

Thanks to Alwyn and his team of volunteers for putting one such a good day’s sport. Report by Berry McCrae…

Training Day

A very successful days training was held on Saturday using the excellent sand arena at Silverwood, Lurgan. Eight drivers including four new members availed of the experience and advice offered by Lewis Black (backstepping) Jeffrey Lyons (dressage) and Edwin Bryson (cones/obstacles).
Sincere thanks to them for giving their time and knowledge to help fellow club members and also to Eddie Dash for checking that everyone kept safe and sound!  If there is sufficient interest we will try and run a similar day’s training on
Saturday or Sunday 21st/22nd May.     Berry McCrae…
