Tragic news was received on the 19th January 2017 that Jim McCoosh has passed away. Jim had battled throat cancer and the treatment required was tough and included surgery. Jim was made of stern stuff and throughout his difficulty he was an inspiration to us all.
He quickly picked up the ribbons (reins) of his hackney ponies and began competing in our Horse Driving Trials as soon as his energy levels permitted.
The love of Jim’s life was his wife Rose who accompanied him to all the events despite being in considerable pain herself.
He previously competed at Shows but as he experienced the thrill of driving cross country, competing in driven dressage and cone driving, showing took a back seat.
Jim was an instant convert to H.D.T.
Jim also competed in the Indoor Driving Trials held in the spring of each year He had previously been a competitor in motor bike and sidecar racing so driving at speed was definitely in his blood!! Jim and Rose loved NICDA activities and NICDA loved them both.
They loved to dance and be in jolly company and happier times will be remembered by us all.
We extend our sincere sympathy to Rose, their son, daughters and families.

Message from our Club Secretary Berry McCrae, —
“On behalf of the members of the Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the HSI Carriage Driving Section and in particular to the Hughes family for organising and hosting the 2nd All-Ireland Championships. Without all your hard work and dedication, our sport could not survive and we greatly appreciate the efforts you all made to ensure the Southern event was such a success, in spite of the atrocious weather conditions!
In particular, we would like to say many thanks to Hazel, who as well as backstepping for John, was still able to remain calm and cheerful whilst organising and coping with all the problems as Event Secretary”.
Sincere Thanks to you all.
