Ballynagarrick Report 2017

Saturday 20th May saw the first Northern Ireland Carriage Driving Association Event of the season at Ballynagarrick, , Co.Armagh by kind permission of the Duke Family. The event was organised by club member David Morrision and helped by his good friend Cecil. There were 18 competitors, some of who enjoyed an overnight stay on Friday.

The weather was kind with just one shower between the Dressage/Cones and the Marathon/Obstacles, so everyone had a dry drive round in the afternoon. The stewarding was done by staff from Tesco’s who did an excellent job. A collection was taken up for Children’s Cancer, Daisy Lodge, Newcastle, which gives respite to parents and families of children suffering from terminal illness. The amount raised was substantial   Mrs Miriam Duke very kindly, presented the rosettes to the winners.

David would like to thank everyone who helped and supported him in his first event and looking forward to the next one at Waringstown on Saturday 10th June.

Poona’s Ride and Drive Fun Weekend, Report & Pics.

Poona McNally’s Special “Fun Weekend” in our case Long Fun Weekend, as some of us arrived, to a great welcome, on Thursday and stayed until Monday. Most came on Friday or Saturday.
Poona was assisted by her husband Randall and her son Robert who did most of the cooking. We had a super breakfast each morning and a delicious dinner each evening.
A full dressage arena and a cones course plus a couple of obstacles, for use at any time.
The road drive, with it’s great views, could be 7klms or 17klms.

Super sunshine and everyone I spoke to had a wonderful time. The auction was a big success and raised funds for CDI.

Report on Silverwood Event: by Club Secretary Berry McCrae

Last Saturday, 8th May, a total of 17 competitors turned up to compete in our first outdoor competition of the season at a brand new venue. Alwyn Morrison and his team put up a very testing combined cones and obstacle course which fully utilised the 100 square meter sand arena.  Fortunately the course was not completely built until after the dressage tests had been finished, which helped the course builders as the brisk wind in the morning caused problems in keeping the obstacles upright! However, by lunchtime the wind had eased and all competitors thoroughly enjoyed having such a large flat arena to really let their animals open up and cover the ground very quickly.
This new venue certainly gives NICDA an excellent arena in which to train and practise their dressage and obstacle driving abilities. Many thanks to Sinead McIntyre for judging the dressage tests and to Alwyn and team for putting on such a full days programme.
